This is personal not from one our founders Manuela Nunez: Be in Support of Constructing a 450-Unit Building in Queens to Support Families in Need As someone who has personally experienced homelessness and the struggle of finding an apartment with a housing voucher, I understand the urgent need for affordable, safe, and supportive housing. Our proposal is to build a 450-unit apartment complex in the upscale area of Queens. This isn't just about providing shelter; it's about offering resources that will empower families to become self-sufficient. The proposed building will not only offer 1,2- and 3-bedroom apartments but also provide essential resources such as job training, daycare facilities, tutoring etc..- all under one roof. These services are crucial for families trying to break free from the cycle of poverty and achieve their goals. Additionally, safety is paramount. The building will be equipped with surveillance cameras to ensure the security of its residents. According to data from New York City's Department of Homeless Services (DHS), there were over 60,000 homeless people sleeping each night in NYC municipal shelters as of January 2021. Over one-third were children. With this project we can make a significant impact on these numbers by providing safe homes along with aftercare for five years once families reach their goal of becoming independent. This initiative is not just about constructing a building; it's about creating opportunities for growth and independence for hundreds of families in need right here in our community. Please sign this petition if you believe that everyone deserves access to safe housing and resources necessary for self-sufficiency
